AYODEJI A. FANIYI
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (Matthew 10:16 KJV)
A Christian on the mountain of politics is like a sheep sent into the midst of the wolves and like a messenger of a King sent to deliver a dangerous message to a vicious man. Such a messenger must obey the king and likewise be wise so as not to be killed by the Evil man while the message is delivered without void of its meaning. This is the state of a child of God that felt called into politics or have passion towards making the society a better place, such a child of God has obligation to maintain his walk with Christ and likewise to maintain his relationship with the society, it has to be a wise journey in which such a Christian won’t fall into perdition and later end up in Hell.
God is the God of all but the Father of those who have been redeemed with the blood of Jesus. The bible says that God is perfect in that, He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good and also sends rain on the just and on the unjust, so this dimension of God that depicts Him as perfect is expedient of a Christian in politics so as to be blameless, when God places you as His Child in any leadership position in politics, you are not just leading only Christians but also other people in other religions, so you need the wisdom of God to relate to the society and likewise maintaining your identity in Christ.
Been in a political position is a ministerial office. It’s either by calling or stemmed out of a genuine passion
Yes, in view of this, for a Christian to remain blameless and to faithfully keep his identity in Christ, he/she needs to exhibit some virtues which I will be listing below:
This virtue reveals the nature of God in you which will make you to love all, whether Christians or Non-Christians and whether you are in the same party or your opposition. This virtue will prevent you from endangering in evils that has gain ascendency in politics.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (1 John 4:8 KJV)
This virtue helps you to maintain your CHRIST IDENTITY in the midst of the political hullabaloo.
But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. (1 Timothy 4:7 KJV)
But godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6 KJV)
This virtue helps you to maintain your integrity while in position or while in the process of aspiration.
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. (Philippians 4:11-12 KJV)
Notice the word of Apostle Paul here “…for I have learned….”, he said that he learned how to be content and that makes him not to fall a prey of corruption and materialism. As a Christian in Politics, you must learn to be a man of contentment.
This virtue helps you to maintain your position and also positioned you for promotion. It also makes “all” to love you.
Honour is a seed, so sow it
Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the King. (1 Peter 2: 17 KJV)
This virtue helps you to maintain your vision even when things are not seems coming right. Many a time, you see some so-called politicians in the world running from one party to another because of their selfish interest and later ended up getting nothing. As a Christian, do not follow their trend, exercise patience.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. (Hebrews 10: 36 KJV)
This virtue helps you to be able to preach the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ through your composure and behavioral interactions with men and situations that might arise. On no occasion must you be arrogant or full of wrath as it is not an act of Christ.
To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. (Titus 3:2 KJV)
This virtue helps you to maintain your walk with God and also to please Him in the midst of storms.
But without Faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)
For you not to end up in Hell as the devil wanted you to when you step into the system of Politics, seek these Virtues.
